A Weekend Trip to Rockport, Texas
My boyfriend and I traded in the rolling hills and ash junipers for saltwater and sand. To celebrate our three-year anniversary, we drove to Rockport, TX, for a weekend of fishing. This was his first time seeing a coastal town in Texas (he’s from New York), and I was so happy to bring him to a place I grew up visiting as a kid. Rockport is where I learned to fish, spent long afternoons bay fishing with my family, and fell in love with the salt life.
Reel ‘Em Inn in Rockport, TX
On this trip, we stayed at Reel ‘Em Inn, a charming nine-room inn right on the water. And when I say right on the water, I mean we could open our door and step right onto the fishing pier.
If you want to splurge a little on a place that’s in a prime location, clean and cozy, and lets you fish at any hour of the day, this is your spot. They’ve got a grill, a room with free ice for your cooler, and rentals to level up your stay — golf carts, paddleboards, and more.
The owners were also very responsive, which I always appreciate. Shout-out to them for making it a great stay! I’d recommend Reel ‘Em Inn to anyone — couples, families, or a group of friends.

What Fish Did We Catch?
We didn’t catch a ton, but here’s our haul:
Pin fish
Spotted sea trout
Croaker
We used our tenkara rods for all of them, with the Rio Bandito Johnson’s fly — basically any fly with a bit of weight to it.
Our Favorite Eats
Visting Rockport, TX
That’s a quick recap of our time in Rockport. It’s the kind of place that makes it easy to slow down — to fish, watch the bay, savor fresh seafood, shop at small businesses and explore a little of the local art scene. If you haven’t been, it’s worth the drive (or flight, if you’re coming from out of state!).
