Gear Review: REYR Gear Collapsible Fishing Net

reyr gear collapsible net review

I’m going to keep this review short and sweet for you all, here’s my take on my newest piece of fishing gear, the REYR Gear Collapsible Insta-Net.

What problem was I facing?

When I was fishing in Montana, I hated not having a net to safely hold fish. My regular net was too bulky to pack, and I kept thinking, “I wish I had something that could fit in my backpack.”

Later that night, I went down a TikTok rabbit hole, searched “collapsible fishing net,” and that’s where I found REYR Gear’s videos. I bought it at the end of my trip and took it to South Dakota a month later, and honestly, it was worth every penny.

First Impressions

Thankfully, I actually read the unpacking instructions that came with it (because this thing could easily smack you in the face if you’re not careful). It’s super easy to unfold, but folding it back into the pouch took some practice.

After a few tries, and watching the tutorial video more times than I’d like to admit, I finally got the hang of it. My hands were sore at first (that sturdy steel is no joke), but it got easier over time.

The rubber netting is great quality and perfect for protecting delicate fish. And the leather pouch it comes in? Beautiful craftsmanship, especially for the price point. Just make sure your net is dry before storing it back in the leather pouch.

What would I rate it?

I’d give this net a solid 9/10.

The only thing missing is a built-in loop or carabiner so I can clip it onto my pack or waders. The pouch does have belt and strap holes, but I haven’t had a chance to set it up on my bag. Not a huge deal, though!

This gear is ideal for…

  • Anyone who wants a net that packs down small for travel or road trips

  • Backpackers who fish on the go

  • Minimalist anglers

  • Tenkara fishers

  • Anyone who appreciates innovative, practical gear

If you’re looking for a high-quality, compact net that won’t weigh down your pack, this one’s a winner. It’s become a staple in my fishing kit, and I can’t wait to see how it holds up through more adventures.
